A performance of my piece Solstice Shadows for choir+piano and now HARP! Sung by Aurora Chorealis and guest harpist Samantha Spurrier from Edmonton, conducted by Margo Nightengale. Poetry by Whitehorse poet Clea Roberts.
Solstice Shadowsexplores the sub-Arctic landscape and soundscape through trippy, slow-motion vocal techniques. For example, sing the word "music" really slowly:
"mmmmmmmeeeeooooozzzzzzzziiiiiiK".
Cool, eh? Now do it again, and imagine the low, long shadows of December in Yellowknife when the sun rises just a bit above the horizon, and the ice settles with a quiet blughrphk.
